The Return Of The WebMaster
In the early days of the Interwebs it was pretty common to see (or hear) about the Webmaster. The person tasked with the updating and creation of web pages. Times were pretty simple with much of the web running on either handcoded HTML files or simple dynamic scripts. Since many did not know how the "Internet works" they left the work of running the website on this guy.
But right at the start of this century came the Content Management System whose premise was that "anyone could run their own site" without the need of external help (read the Webmaster). Great! The Content Management System with its simple input forms and dynamic building of webpages solved a lot of stuff. Now there was no need of handcoding every webpage, no need of figuring out directory structures to build the URL path and so on. The Websmater's role withered into the background somehow and many forgot just how technical it is to run a website.
Today, things are a little mucky and complicated. The demand placed by UI kits (Tailwind, Bootstrap, Bulma), the rise of Mobile Responsiveness and the biggest of them all... the demand for every page to have custom layouts rather than the default structure ... has raised the demand for the Webmaster's role. Also, the fast pace of User Interface developments has contributed to this. The average website owner may not be interested in doing all these by themselves.
So if you have skills in HTML, CSS or understand any web technologies the grass is really green this time.
